In 2021 Guardian Group Fatum alone registered 5046 amongst its clients. That’s just 95 accidents less than the year before. In many cases, these accidents were completely avoidable. Together with you we want to increase the road safety for everyone. This can be done in several ways. Your own 'safety on the road’ is a combination of vehicle control, traffic insight, a sense of responsibility, and general attentiveness. It’s best to stay focused when participating in traffic to avoid accidents as much as possible.
Tip 1: Keep your hands on the wheel
It may sound very logical, but it is very important to keep both hands on the wheel. Of course, you occasionally need one hand to, for example, switch gears, sound the horn, operate your windshield wipers, use turn signal, etc. But keeping both hands on your steering wheel prevents you from getting distracted by for example your phone, navigation, or radio. The result is an attentive, more decisive, and safer driving style.
Tip 2: Don't use your phone while driving
Using your phone while driving, even in handsfree mode, is very dangerous. It means you have to divide your attention between traffic and your phone, which means that you are not completely aware of or focused on your surroundings.
Stay focused and just call or text once you’ve arrived at your destination safely.
Tip 3: Do not drive if you are under the influence
Alcohol reaches your brain after just 10 minutes. When under the influence you might feel more confident but in reality, your reaction time decreases, it’s harder to focus and you overestimate your driving skills. Needless to say, when you are out for a drink, make sure you have a designated sober driver to get you home safely.
Tip 4: Always fasten your seat belt
Wearing a seat belt is proven to help reduce the risk of (severe) injuries and fatalities in car accidents and collisions. Whether you are the driver or passenger, in the front or in the back, make sure to always fasten your seat belt. Kids should also always be buckled up in a car/booster seat. Limit and avoid (fatal or severe) injuries by always buckling everyone up!
Tip 5: Stick to the speed limit and #Slowdown
Whether you're in a car or on a motorcycle, the higher your speed, the harder it is to come to a stop. That is why it is very important that you maintain the speed limit so that you do not endanger yourself or others around you by driving too fast. Speeding doesn’t mean you will get there faster, the goal is to get to your destination safely.
Let’s take care of each other by following the above-mentioned tips. Contribute to safer traffic on our islands for everyone.
